Ester Segarra
You may not realise, but you already know the art of Ester Segarra. For over a decade the Barcelona-born photographer has reimagined the image of heavy metal, from Ghost to Watain, Electric Wizard and Cathedral, Burzum and Mayhem, Katatonia and Paradise Lost, At The Gates and Carcass, Darkthrone, Rotting Christ, Venom, Abbath… Through her lens, Ester has lifted the veil on extreme music’s most notorious players and in turn become one of the most prolific and significant contemporary music photographers.
Starting to work for Terrorizer Magazine in 2001, she went on to work for Metal Hammer, Decibel, Rock Hard, Iron Fist, Deaforever, This Is Metal, Close-Up and labels such as Season Of Mist, Century Media, Nuclear Blast, Candlelight, Rise Above, Spinefarm and Peaceville.
Ester's anthology book Ars Umbra celebrates 15 years of music photography.
